We recently asked our friend Jonny Bowden the following question:
"Can stress prevent you from burning fat-even when you exercise and eat right?"
His answer is interesting because it is a component of something called 'Weight Loss Resistance"- that sense that you are really doing all the right things, but not making progress.
Here is what he said:
"The answer is yes. There are two main reasons.
1. Stress hormones (i.e. cortisol and adrenalin) actually prompt the body to store fat around the middle (even in skinny people..). Cortisol-- which the sports nutritionist Michael Colgan once called "the grinch of bodybuilding"-- actually breaks down muscle, since muscle increases metabolic rate.
2. Stress hormones prompt the release of inflammatory cytokines"
Dr. Oz has said pretty much the same thing recently. In his view:
"When you're under stress, your body releases the hormone cortisol, which makes your body store fat around your midsection.
If you tend to gain weight when you're stressed out, this supplement can help you tackle stubborn belly fat. Relora is supplement made from the extracts of two plants used for thousands of years by Chinese herbalists to promote relaxation.
Clinical studies have shown that Relora can help mitigate feelings of anxiety. Decreased levels of cortisol can lead to the prevention of weight gain, the loss of excess weight, and the reduction of stress eating.
Dr. Oz's Suggested Dose: Take 250mg of Relora three times a day -- or one dose with every meal. Studies have demonstrated this to be the most effective use of this supplement so you receive the maximum benefit."
In the Cleanse, JJ Virgin has recommended a proprietary version of Relora that is a cut way above what is out there. You can learn more about what is added to this formulation at this link:
